Ukrainian smooth operators Cape Cod and Koloah (Soulection, Hyperboloid) make their formal debut on Loveless Records with an outright catchy 3-song testament to their self-styled signature sound dubbed “Romantic Bass” – a clever mixture of Soulful House, tempered Balearic and modern Deep House through the lens of Bass Music.
Evoking a nostalgic sense of 90s soulful House & Garage, the EP kicks off with the soothing, shuffled number Tell Me. Diva vocals echo over lush pads and threaten to beat Disclosure and Route 94 at their own game. No Time picks the energy up a notch, throwing an oldies soul vocal hook over a Midland and Detroit Swindle-like House progression before hitting a half-time Hip Hop breakdown. Acid Love is, as the name suggests, an experiment in melding together the iconic Roland 909 acid sound with the classic free-love playfulness of Balearic-indebted House, led by booming diva vocals.
On the B-side, Vogue legend Divoli fuses Acid Love’s Acid House foundation with the unmistakable Ballroom sound. Montreal duo Sibian & Faun exploit Tell Me’s shuffle and turn it into a dark Bass number with an undeniable chord progression. Russian newcomer Fisky (Top Billin) closes out the EP with a powerful, stripped down club take on Tell Me.
