Rachika S is a Brooklyn-based producer who draws on genres spanning ambient, contemporary classical, shoegaze, and more. Using various electronic processing techniques, she explores latent qualities of acoustic instruments including cello, guitar, and piano, juxtaposed with the artifacts present in digital apparatuses.
The forthcoming EP, Themes for a Film, is inspired by music Rachika S originally wrote for a Loveless Records re-scoring of cult-classic anime Tekkonkinkreet. Pulling together threads of ambient-electronic, shoegaze, darkwave and more, the EP's dramatic, expansive emotional arc resembles that of cinematic narrative excavated of character and plot.
The first track "Intro / The Fire" evokes an air of anticipation as it introduces Rachika's signature tones of erratically fluttering, deconstructed guitar. The agitation then settles in "Five O' Clock Chase" to a vivid, propulsive groove. In "The Apple Tree" a flurry of grainy strings mount to a grand crescendo, before falling into the menacing, hellish landscape that "Killing Machines" maps with its broken heartbeat and harsh kaleidoscopic noise. The final song "A House by the Ocean" closes the album on a hopeful note, as a twinkling guitar line swells to a majestic, climactic goodbye.
Rachika S has shared the visually captivating music video for her new single "Behold" from her forthcoming EP on Loveless Records, Themes for a Film, out September 21st, You can hear it now on Bandcamp and Soundcloud.
